History of Ecumenical Christian College
Christian Education as part of Tarlac United Methodist Church's programs is done through Sunday School and Bible Studies. The opening of the Pre-Elem, which started from one class, one session activity, was at first mainly for the members children only. But then other non-membvers children were taken in and included in the Church's outreach program. Thus, the growth of Ecumenical School with the offering of the Kindergarten classes to the elementary and then to the high school level was an answer to the need for expanding outreach program of the church.
The idea that the school is to become the mission arm of the church, and the children and the students the mission field by which Christian values and Christian Education shall be promoted, has been upheld in the activities and programs of the school.
The need to follow up this Chrtistian growthof the students is a continuing concern that the school commits itself into. Thus, in a histortic development planning workshop held in 2002, the school board of trustees envision the idea of putting up a college department to provide students an alternative college where christian education and values are part of their growth and career choices. the idea to form within months, and after several commitee meetings, paper preparations, consultancy trips to CHED, physical structure improvements, purchases of lot in matatalaib, tarlac city for the proposed college, the ecumenical christian college became a reality with CHED's granting a permit to operate.
On June 2003, the ecumenical christian college, which integrated the pre-elem, elementary and high school departments, opens and took first 67 enrollees for the BS Nursing and BS Education courses.
The Program offerings, which are basically the answer to the needs of the time secured for ECC its place among the educational institutions in Tarlac. following the lead that ECC made for the province of Tarlac in establishing the first kindergarten school, it also pioneered a new the opening of the special education center to meet the educational needs of special students.
among its future plans are the offerings of BS Christian Education, Training for Lay leadership, music education, and other short courses.
There is still so much to be done and to be achieved, but ECC as the mission arm of the church is committed to providing a kind of education where christian values are integrated, and where the graduates are known for their productive contribution and highly spiritiual and moral living.
Brief history of Ecumenical Christian College High School Department
August 10, 1991 will always be the most important date in the history of Ecumenical High School. It was on this day that the EHS was officially born in paper. The following are excerpts of the momentous event.
Excerpts from the minutes of the School Board of Trustees meeting held August 10, 1991:
The opening of the secondary level in Ecumenical School became inevitable when the scholastic standard of ES was finally recognized by the Tarlac Community. The intolerance of other school toward the first elementary graduate of ES due to religious grounds and their preferential attitude to other graduates bolstered the need to put up the vision to reality. The Ecumenical School Board resolution was further strengthened by the General Parents-Teachers Association's own resolution under the presidency of Mr. Francisco Gabinera.
By the grace of God Almighty, the Ecumenical High School opened its school to students in June 1992. Located strategically along Zamora streets, its beginnings were very modest. Ingenuously converting what was once a big dormitory hall, three classrooms were used to accomodate the very first population of three sections of 117 students. Mrs. Jeanette C. Nacpil served as the OIC principal. Four years after, during the end of the school year 1995-1996, Ecumenical High School witnessed its first Graduates with Mrs. Lucila M. Ting as the newly appointed principal. Because of an increase in enrolment, the construction of the second floor of the current building was witnessed during the summer S.Y 1995-1996.
In 1998, Mrs. Ting left for the United States thus, Mrs. Alicia P. Unite, the former guidance counselor of Ecumenical High School was appointed as the next Principal. During her term of office, different development were witnessed such as the completion of the third and fourth floors of the school building, construction of eating area and canteen. Additional sections in the First year level were also created from three to four sections then later five.
